February 2021 Installation

Created during the COVID-19 pandemic in the final year of my BFA, this installation centers on the idea of human connection. More than sixty plaster-cast fingers extend from the walls, windows, and floor of the space, each one holding a length of yarn. Participants were invited to actively engage with the work by either forming connections—tying strands of yarn together—or breaking them by cutting previously tied threads. As connections accumulated, the room became increasingly difficult to navigate. Movement through the space required cutting existing ties, altering both the physical and visual topography of the installation. Through this participatory process, the work emphasizes the importance of creating connections with others while also acknowledging that, at times, breaking connections is necessary in order to continue moving forward.
