December 2025 Installation

This site-specific installation was created in collaboration with fellow Boise Open Studios Collective member Andrew Groth. We were honored to be one of six artist teams selected for the inaugural partnership between Surel’s Place and the Arcadia Hotel in Garden City. The event, aptly titled ARTcadia, took place on December 5, 2025. From the beginning, our goal was to fully embrace the idea of site-specific work—creating an installation that could only exist in, and directly respond to, the hotel environment. Hotels are places where people temporarily inhabit space, collect experiences, and then leave with memories. This led us to ask a simple question: What if the hotel had memories too? If so, the only thing it could remember would be its guests. The ghost-like figures in the room represent those lingering memories—echoes of past occupants. Constructed from armature wire, Saran wrap, and packing tape, the figures possess a translucent, ethereal quality. Their semi-transparent surfaces catch and reflect light, creating a subtle sparkle that enhances their otherworldly presence. Each figure was formed by wrapping an actual body in Saran wrap, layering armature wire over the surface, and then taping the structure together. The taped form was carefully cut off the body and reassembled, resulting in a hollow, life-sized impression of human presence without permanence. This project was a meaningful and rewarding experience, and both Andrew and I hope that ARTcadia continues to grow and return as a yearly event.
