She Wears Her Halo on the Inside is a cathartic exploration of aging as a woman. The sculptural form is based on my own body and constructed from industrial waste steel pipe, intentionally retaining signs of wear, age, and imperfection. The exterior surface is layered with graffiti-style imagery and text—fragments of language that reflect societal attitudes and personal narratives surrounding aging. In contrast, the interior reveals a radiant golden halo, also formed from reclaimed steel, suspended within a deep blue, star-filled space. This inner cosmos represents the enduring value of thought, creativity, and lived experience. The work asserts that despite a widening, aging body, my ideas, actions, and inner life remain vital, powerful, and worthy.
