Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, this work was originally conceived as a site-specific installation to be placed at the summit of Table Rock, near the prominent permanent cross. The wings—constructed from sixty-four thrifted butcher and steak knives—remain incomplete until a body steps into the space and “wears” them, activating the piece. The installation was intended for hikers to encounter and engage with upon reaching the summit. However, when road access was closed and the site became unreachable to the general public, transporting sections of the wings up the steep trail—while carrying exposed knives—posed an unacceptable safety risk. As a result, the work found a new site-specific context along Robie Creek, accompanied by a faint message spelled out in white stones on the hillside: “Jesus loves you.” In both locations, the intent of the piece remains the same—to provoke reflection on duality and morality, asking whether we are angels, demons, or something in between.
